Where's Michael Moore When You Need Him?

From the "what are they smoking file" comes the latest piece of twisted thinking by the good ol' boys at the National Rifle Association.

As posted on workforce.com the "NRA says a Florida measure allowing workers to keep loaded firearms in their cars would boost safety, while employers see increased danger, higher security costs and a negative impact on morale. " What's more, employers who prevent their staff from keeping guns in the parking lot would face five years in prison or a $5,000 fine!

Are they (and the politicians who came up with this) out of their minds? Do they even have working brains? Or did Charleton Heston drop the 10 commandment tablets onto the heads of every member in that outrageous organization?

How do they suppose that having a loaded gun in the car is going to protect ANY of the people inside a workplace? It's like a calling to all gangsters and criminals saying "Hey man, look for the cars with NRA bumper stickers the next time you need to re-stock your arsenal".

I hope all the workers in Florida have a good line of credit at their local auto-glass shop, since one would think this can only help to increase car break-ins.

The sad irony is clear from a major news headline today that proclaims "Seven dead in California postal shooting". It seems that, at a post office sorting facility in California, a former employee walked in and shot 6 people before turning the gun on herself.

The NRA's twisting and mis-interpretation of the 2nd Ammendment should not be accepted by a rational, civilized society. Though I suppose it would be a mistake to consider American society, and our own to some extent, beholden to "rational" thought.
