Long Overdue

Well it's been quite some time since my last post to Thoreau-ly Confused and there are so many things that I've been meaning to comment on but finding the time to get to each of them (in fact any of them) has been a challenge.

I try to keep relatively informed about current political issues but, with the latest federal election here in Canada, it's been right at the top of my mind. We have a new government with the Conservative party taking a small minority control of the House and I suppose it was the best option, all things considered. I'm not thrilled by some of the prospects who are bound to be named to cabinet in the coming days but there had to be a shake-up within the Liberal ranks and the combined strength of the 3 left-leaning opposition parties should help to temper any radical thoughts by the fringe members of the new government. Here's hoping for continued efforts by all to build upon the foundation of a united and strong but compassionate Canada.

With the new year well underway I expect to return to a more dilligent Blog posting schedule. I visited New York last week and saw some interesting things that I'd like to mention soon. There is some on-going rhetoric about "activist judges", both here and in the USA, that's giving me the equivalent of a cold-slushie head rush. And I'm growing exceedingly concerned with the general public's ability - or lack thereof - to think critically, form logical arguments, and understand the difference between "objective reporting" and the editorial pages of a newspaper.

But until next time... happy surfing!
