Bumbling Bush
While watching "The Daily Show" with Jon Stewart this week, I was about to turn the channel during the latest ridiculing of George W. Bush. I have almost become numb to seeing the many examples of how ill-suited this man is to hold the office of President; yet, I was so stunned by this segment that I forced myself to keep watching.
The clip showed the President holding a video conference with selected US troops. Once again Bush lived up to his stereotypical bumbling style of speaking but what made this all the more disturbing was the fact that the entire thing was SCRIPTED! I know political speeches are rarely impromptu affairs but this was a bit much.
How is it possible that the so called "leader of the free world" and commander in chief of the only global super power cannot even lead a genuine conversation with the very soldiers he asks to risk their lives every day in order to carry out his "vision"?
Why should they have any faith in him or his leadership when his voice lacks any confidence in tone and his words imply that he doesn't even know about their specific situation or strategy?
Even the supposed personal banter where Bush claimed to remember one of the women in uniform was pre-planned with the soldier being coached on how to answer him.
What affect can this have on the morale of men and women in battle zones who realize that their peers are basically being told to laugh and respond on cue to this public relations farce?
I'm not an American, but as a citizen of the Earth, I don't know if I should be angry, saddened, or embarrased that our brothers and sisters in the U.S. have chosen this man to hold the master key to our future.
I implore you to watch this video and understand how important getting involved in the political process can be. Afterall, the current administration talks a lot about democracy and freedom but seems to survive due to apathy and popular misconceptions.

(The Bush segment begins about 2 minutes into the clip.)
