Youth of the Nation

I wouldn't normally link to the site of a "born-again" band but considering the constant wave of gun violence in our city this year, I thought this particular song may present a timely message.

The lyrics to the song, "Youth of a Nation" by P.O.D. are not groundbreaking words of wisdom and I have no intention of perpetuating trite ideas or thoughts. However, sometimes it's useful to stop and ponder things from a simple perspective. The song mentions school shootings, teen suicide, lack of self confidence - all serious matters that should be considered thoughtfully regardless of our particular moral and spiritual point of reference.

Rather than comment on the causes or effects of gun violence, the community responses to such incidents, or the politicking that plagues the real issues, I'll leave it to you to think for yourself.

(I think my new motto in life is that if I can't always be right, at least I want to be thought provoking.)

Here are the partial lyrics:

Last day of the rest of my life
I wish I would've known
Cause I didn't kiss my mama goodbye
...
Unaware, I just did what I always do
Everyday, the same routine
Before I skate off to school
...
But who knew that this day wasn't like the rest
Instead of taking a test
I took two to the chest
