Top 10 Sports Records
This type of list seems to re-appear whenever someone gets close to breaking a major record - or perhaps when a sports writer has nothing left in the tank of ideas (bad sports cliché intended) for a new article. I'm not sure if this particular article was written to co-incide with Lance Armstrong's latest record breaking victory in the Tour de France but in any event, it's an interesting look at some amazing athletic accomplishments.
It's easy to debate subjects like who is the greatest hockey/baseball/football player of all time and other such bar room banter. Yet who can argue that these 10 feats don't belong somewhere near the top of the list of "untouchable" records? Gretzky's 215 point season, Chamberlain's 100 point game, Ripkin's 2,632 consecutive games played, and the rest all seem solidly out of reach for any modern or future athlete - barring new and drastic changes to the games in question. (Afterall, such changes over the decades are - in part - what make these records so incredible.)
